Being Aware
Being aware of just how precious the normal everyday type of day actually is.
On page 30 of my book Emotional Life you will see a quote by American poet Mary Jean Irion. It is one of my favourite quotes and while writing my book, I made contact with Mary to gain permission from her to use the quote in my book. Her words express the anguish felt when what we take for granted in our everyday normal life is no longer there.
“Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.”
