I just came across this poem at the back of my desk drawer when I was having a tidy up today and would like to share it. It certainly underlines the importance of being mindful of the moment.
Look well to this day
for it is life…..
the very best of life.
In its brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence
the joy of growth
the splendour of action
the glory of power
For yesterday is but a memory
and tomorrow is only a vision
but today if lived well makes
every yesterday a memory of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope
Look well therefore to this day.
(Ancient Sanskrit Poem)
I attended the Ashton Whylie Published Book Awards last Friday evening and although my book Emotional Life had been selected as one of the ten nationwide finalists, it didn’t win. But congratulations to the winner – the well known NZ author Sir Lloyd Geering.
I have just been informed that my name was mentioned in the local paper yesterday as being a finalist in the published book category for Mind Body and Soul (for my book Emotional Life) – the prize being $10,000 which is one of the largest monetary prizes for literature in New Zealand. Ten authors nationwide make up the ten finalists and the short-listed five finalists will be announced next week! So fingers crossed buy essay papers.
This is a quote by Dr Elisabeth Kubler-Ross from my book Emotional Life – : “It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on Earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it were the only one we had.”
This is one of my favourite quotes, and if we were to fully realise the importance of this message, then all the small frustrations of everyday life would not have such a negative emotional impact on us, life really would be too precious to waste on an emotional over-reaction to the ‘small stuff’.
